Marimba Powley is a Southland artist who exhibits extensively around New Zealand and has participated in several charity art events. Marimba is also a member of the NZ Art Guild.
Painting is a necessary part of life for Marimba. She often uses the creative process to understand and come to terms with her surroundings and life events. It brings to her life a sense of balance which she feels may otherwise be lacking.
Marimba is a curious person by nature, and as such enjoys experimenting with different techniques and media. Her artworks reflect her changing moods and desire to explore. This is expressed through a variety of different series and styles which include very controlled paintings to more free, abstract forms. Marimba prefers acrylics as they allow her to work quickly and when need be, change her mind on a whim. A unique trademark of Marimba's art is the very detailed hand painted cross hatching that creates depth and movement within her artworks.
Marimba's artwork often tells a story and this engages the viewer further by drawing them into her world.
